Vintage Christmas – The Scary Santas

Honestly, it’s a wonder I wasn’t permanently traumatized by the SCARY SANTAS of my childhood! Some Santas are just as advertised: round and jolly – long, white beard, etc., etc. Others – like the one who came to our house were seriously scary!! These Santas had masks – worse than the scariest Halloween mask you ever saw. Well, actually, the first one just sort of looked like a very old man – beady little eyes, scraggly beard. After my first few Christmases, they got a new Santa mask. And, hard as it was to believe, this one was worse than the first!!! I think the masks were made of stiffened cloth and then painted. The new one had rosy cheeks and blue eye shadow! – YIKES!

We were brave little souls (had to be to collect the goods), but those Santas were very, very SCARY!
The earlier version of Scary Santa - not as much makeup, but still pretty scary looking!

Arrrrgh - he's got me! And he's put my brother in a coma.

Help! He caught Nana!

Help! He caught Nana!

Why has he always got someone in a death grip?!!
